Snowshoe Hare

Snowshoe Hare

This morning, from here, gazing down into the backyard, I briefly watched a solitary snowshoe hare. It traversed from right to left, from the shed to the forest beyond the deck. The body was brown with the feet and ears still snow white.

I have seen their tracks in the winter snow. Some winter, should follow them from and to where they are going and where they have been.

A google search on “Maine Snowshoe Hare” reveals hunting outfitters. No wonder it has taken ten years to see one from here.

Or maybe I just need to look more closely.
