Crabbing

This seagull is taking a header to dive for dinner. In this case a crab.

While in Rockland, Maine, watching the end of the Great Schooner Race, at the Harbor Park, these diving seagulls caught my eye. Basically, they would paddle along while peering down until they saw a crab. Then they would launch several feet into the air and shallow dive.

I had never seen seagulls dive like this before. Just when you think you have seen it all, you see something else.
